Between 1975 and 1979 Newman photographed leading figures from British politics, literature, the arts, science and public life, creating a remarkable visual record of Britain at the end of the 1970s.

Renowned for his environmental portraits, Newman placed his subjects within meaningful surroundings, producing photographs that reveal both personality and achievement. The exhibition became one of the defining portrait projects of its time.
